Mauro Veglio: the evolution of Barolo in the tradition of the Langhe. In the setting of the hills of La Morra, the historical Barolo area, lies the Mauro Veglio winery. It was Angelo, in the 1950s, who started the family business, betting on sustainable agriculture and viticulture focused on excellence. He was followed by Mauro, heir and innovator, who, starting in the 1980s, embarked on a path of renewal that helped change the very face of Barolo. With the help of his wife Daniela and, later, his nephew Alessandro, Mauro introduced modern techniques and a stylistic vision inspired by the great wines of Burgundy. Shorter macerations, French oak barriques used with balance and maniacal care in the vineyard and cellar have resulted in more elegant, fresh and accessible wines, without ever betraying the typicality of Nebbiolo. For more than 20 years, Mauro Veglio has also adopted organic practices, refusing the use of chemical herbicides and promoting natural techniques such as sexual confusion for pest control. Plants and flowers grow between the rows, enriching the soil and favouring the balance of the ecosystem, while anti-hail nets protect the grapes from the effects of climate change.
