In the charming region of Limoux, in the heart of Languedoc-Roussillon, lies Domaine J. Laurens, a winery that perfectly embodies the balance between tradition and innovation. Located in La Digne d'Aval, this little oenological pearl extends over 13 hectares of vineyards, where native grapes such as Mauzac and international varieties such as Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Pinot Noir are grown. With an annual production of about 130,000 bottles, Domaine J. Laurens has carved out a prominent place for itself in the regional wine scene, thanks to wines that combine excellent quality and accessibility. The history of this company is as fascinating as it is unusual. Behind the labels is Jacques Calvel, a former computer engineer from the region who decided to reinvent himself as a winemaker upon retirement. With passion and dedication, Calvel inherited a well-established business, previously shaped by Michel Dervin, an expert ‘champagnard’ who brought with him the know-how of the Champagne region. Thanks to this solid foundation, Calvel was able to concentrate on what really matters: producing top quality sparkling wine, respecting the centuries-old tradition of Limoux, an area known as the cradle of French sparkling wine, even preceding Champagne itself.
