Founded in the mid-18th century by the Léglise family of Libourne, Château l'Evangile made a decisive contribution to the birth and development of the Pomerol vineyard, now considered one of the world's most renowned appellations for the production of top-quality red wines. Together with other historic families in the area, such as the Arnaud family of Petrus, the Conseillant family of La Conseillante and the Giraud family of Trotanoy, the Léglises laid the foundations for a winemaking tradition that still represents global excellence. Originally known as Fazilleau, the estate took on the name Château l'Evangile in the early 19th century. In 1862, the estate was acquired by Paul Chaperon and later by the Ducasse family, who retained ownership until 1990. In recent decades, Château l'Evangile has gradually been taken over by the prestigious team of Lafite Rothschild, a name that needs no introduction in the wine world. The vines cultivated at Château l'Evangile are typical of the Pomerol terroir, with a clear predominance of Merlot.
