Columbia Crest

Today we are in the heart of the United States to discover a very interesting winery. We are, to be precise, along the banks of the Columbia River in eastern Washington State. Here we find Columbia Crest, founded in 1982, the first winery in the renowned ‘AVA’ Horse Heaven Hills. The area here is characterised by a unique microclimate, with hot, dry summers tempered by cool breezes from the Columbia River, and cold but not excessively cold winters. These climatic conditions create a perfect environment for growing high quality grapes. And Columbia Crest has taken full advantage of the potential of this land, adopting viticultural and winemaking practices that enhance the unique characteristics of the grapes grown. In the countryside, Cabernet Sauvignon, which here develops intense aromas of dark fruit and spicy notes, and Merlot, which stands out for its smoothness and cherry and chocolate nuances. But also Chardonnay, which produces wines of great elegance, with notes of tropical fruit and balanced acidity. The winery's wines have received several awards over the years from strict starred critics, including the prestigious ‘Wine of the Year’ awarded by Wine Spectator magazine in 2009.
