Red wines - Spain

The third largest wine producer in the world, Spain is characterised by a high number of indigenous grape varieties. Particularly renowned are its still red wines, mainly produced from grape varieties such as Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano. The most widely cultivated Spanish variety is the white grape Airén, but Albariño and Malvasia also stand out in Spanish production. Among the white grapes, Palomino, Moscatel and Pedro Ximénez are mainly used for the production of Jerez, more commonly known as Sherry, the typical liqueur wine.
