Typical of the Monferrato region, Dolcetto is one of the most representative red wines of Piedmont, even though its origins seem to lie in Liguria. The name could be misleading and make one think of sweetness as its main characteristic, but its peculiarities are softness and low acidity. Its grapes are used to produce some of the most famous Italian red wines, such as Dolcetto d'Alba, d'Asti, d'Acqui and Langhe Monregalesi, as well as DOCG Dogliani, Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba and Dolcetto di Ovada.
