Champagne Bonnaire 120 Rue d'Epernay, 51530 Cramant, Francia
There are Champagnes that focus entirely on immediate impact. And then there are labels like Les Versants Réserve by Bonnaire, capable of expressing the most authentic and refined face of Champagne through balance, precision and a strong sense of place. Maison Bonnaire was founded in 1932 in Cramant, in the heart of the prestigious Côte des Blancs, the historic homeland of finely crafted Chardonnay. Here, among iconic villages such as Cramant, Cuis and Bergères-les-Vertus, a Champagne takes shape that combines elegance and character, thanks also to the contribution of Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims and Meunier from the Vallée de la Marne. The result is an Extra Brut with a clear and contemporary personality, aged on the lees for 30 months to develop depth and complexity. In the glass it shines with a bright pale golden hue, crossed by a fine and persistent perlage. On the nose delicate floral nuances and light fruity notes emerge, while the palate impresses with balance, freshness and a refined hint of bread crust that accompanies the finish. A versatile and gastronomic Champagne, perfect from aperitif time to pairings with cured meats and creamy cheeses such as Brie and Camembert. A French sparkling wine that stylishly interprets the tradition of classic Champagne.
For once, we are not dealing with a historic estate boasting centuries of history and noble prestige. On the contrary, Bonnaire has a short but intense story. Founded in 1932, the house is located in one of the finest crus of the Champagne region, the village of Cramant in the northern part of the Côte des Blancs. Here, the undisputed leading grape variety is Chardonnay, capable of producing wines of rare finesse and remarkable ageing potential. Elegant wines characterised by a distinctly mineral profile, largely due to the chalky subsoil that ensures perfect drainage and a steady water supply for the vines during summer. At the beginning of the 1930s, Fernand Bouquemont, great-grandfather of the current owners, decided to start producing wines from the family vineyards. Fortunately, success soon followed. Today the estate is managed by the fourth generation of the family and can rely on nearly 22 hectares of vineyards, producing around 100,000 bottles every year.
